Tips for your maternity session | San Jose, CA

I know you must have a lot of questions regarding the process of booking your maternity session. I have 5 tips to help you clear some questions.

  1. Plan ahead and communicate.

Schedule your maternity photography session well in advance, ideally during the second trimester. This allows enough time to plan outfits, choose locations, and ensure everyone is on the same page. Communicate your expectations, preferences, and any specific ideas that you have in mind with your photographer!

  2. Choose the Right Wardrobe

Choosing the right clothes for your session will significantly impact the result. Colors, fit, and details will change the complete look of your photography session. Dresses will allow you to move, and the wind flying your dress can give your photos that fantastic touch. I provide my clients with a styling tool to help them coordinate outfits! I have a Client Closet with beautiful bump-friendly dresses!

  3. Talk with Partner and Siblings

If your partner or other children will be included in the maternity photo shoot, you must consider coordinating outfits to create a cohesive look. This doesn't mean everyone needs to wear matching outfits, but rather that the colors and styles complement each other. I recommend you discuss the session with your partner, explain why this is important to you, and how you feel about sharing this moment; that way is easier to have your partner on board instead of being grumpy. If you have more children involved, talk with them, “ey kiddo, tomorrow we will have a big day! My friend Aby will take some photos of the baby and us; it will be so fun”, kids that know what’s happening will enjoy more! and, of course, you can bring their favorite snacks as a reward!

  4. Embrace the Moment

On your session day, you have done your part! You choose your favorite location, and your outfit looks amazing; now is the time to fully embrace the experience and enjoy the session. Pregnancy is a beautiful stage in life, your unique body is creating a new life; these photos will be cherished memories. Relax, be yourselves, and let your natural emotions shine through. Hug your partner, tickle your kids, and let your photographer capture the best of it!

  5. Trust the Photographer

As a photographer, I am an expert in capturing beautiful maternity moments. I know you can have some Pinterest cute ideas you want to recreate, and you can share them with me during our discussion. But I’ll encourage your to trust me. I’ll guide you during the session with easy instructions to use lighting and angles to create stunning images. You don't need to worry about looking perfect or knowing how to pose – it's my job to make you look amazing.
